2. The Traffic

one

There is very little, in the world that compares to a a night under the stars in a small, rural town.

While you drive out of town, sometimes hours out, to see a meteor shower, we can lay on our lawns. The sound of the crickets, the shooting stars, the kids giggling, and the tranquil peace is all there is and it is beautiful.

When the work commute is 5 minutes, you suddenly gain more; more sleeping time, more barbecue time, more reading time, more family time, more whatever-you-want-it-to-be time.

A fifteen second wait at a light is long when you are in a small town. Bumper-to-bumper traffic, what does that even mean?

3. A Relaxed Life

Country living is pretty chill living. Family is important. The land is part of who you are. Your kids play outside. Your neighbors park in the middle of the street just to chat. A least one person on your street has chickens in their yard.

4. Community

There is something safe about the fact that if you break down in a small town, odds are, someone you know will be along in minutes.

5. Hard Work

Our kids work hard: 4H, county fairs, chopping wood, tending animals, mowing lawns, planting fields, working in family business, gardening, or cooking. Country kids know how to get dirty and work hard.

Rural kids are often learn about hard work before they are even eight, learn how to sell and earn their own money. And these kids grow into hardworking, self-sufficient adults.

6. Authentic

Small towns are authentic. They aren't trying to be the new #bestthing, they aren't hiding true intentions. They are unapologetically, exactly who they are.

Their small, local businesses are shops that are unique to each small town and tell you a lot about the people and culture in each small town. Small towns are original  and authentic.

7. The Land

The land around a small, rural town is vast. It is open. It is beautiful. You can't find this kind of amazing peace in the urban cities. You would be hard pressed to even find people who understand land like small towners.

When the land is how you survive, you understand its importance and you have to maintain it.
